Pool Filter Cleaning in Tempe, AZ

Filter service that keeps older systems flowing, offered with Nevergreen Pools.

Beyond Pool Cleaning handles filter cleaning in Tempe for sand, DE, and cartridge systems, and we look over the rest of the circulation system on the same visit. When the filter is doing its job, the water stays clear and the pump does not have to fight to move it.

Call us if the filter pressure keeps creeping up no matter how often you backwash, if fine dirt blows back into the pool through the returns, if you see DE powder settling on the floor, if the water looks clear but feels gritty, if the pump sounds strained or the flow at the jets is weak, if the backwash line runs cloudy for a long time, or if the filter has not been opened since you bought the house.

Beyond Pool Cleaning partners with Nevergreen Pools, carries Arizona ROC license 365989, and dispatches from our East Gray Road location in the Scottsdale Airpark. Fill in the request form here and we will reach out to get a filter cleaning booked.

What Goes Into a Filter Cleaning

Our technician starts with a reading of the whole circulation system. Pressure before and after, flow at the returns, the condition of the pump and baskets, and the position of the valves all tell us whether the filter is the main problem or one of several. On older pads that step matters, because a worn valve or a partly closed line can look a lot like a dirty filter.

Sand filters are backwashed, opened, and checked for media that has clumped, channeled, or worn down to the point where it no longer traps fine dirt. DE filters are taken apart so the grids and manifold can be cleaned, inspected for tears or cracks, and recharged with fresh DE. Cartridge filters get a full cleaning and an inspection of the pleats and end caps. Lid o-rings, clamps, and air relief valves are checked so the tank seals and vents correctly. When sand needs changing, grids are failing, or the tank itself is worn, we quote it in writing first and tell you whether it is worth repairing or time to replace. Follow up stays with the same crew.

Conditions here wear filters down. Most pools were built in the 1960s through 1980s and many still use sand or DE filters that are nearing the end of their life. Very hard water leaves calcium that cakes into sand and coats DE grids. Monsoon storms from July through September send fine dirt into pools overnight, and palms, citrus, and mesquite add organic debris all year. Rental pools that sit between tenants often come to us with filters that have not been touched in a long time.

Filter cleaning is part of a wider set of services:

Clear Water and a Pump That Lasts

A properly cleaned filter traps the fine dust and debris that leave water dull, so the pool looks brighter and holds its chlorine longer. Flow improves, the pump runs cooler, and any heater or salt system on the line gets the water volume it needs to operate. You also end up using fewer chemicals, since the filter is doing more of the work.

Neglected filters cause problems that spread. Pressure goes up, flow goes down, and the pool clouds over, especially after a dust storm. Sand that has calcified lets dirt pass straight back into the water. A torn DE grid sends powder into the pool and can damage the pump. A pump straining against a packed filter overheats and wears out its seal and bearings, and on an older single speed motor that strain can be enough to finish it off.

Getting on a regular cleaning schedule takes the guesswork out of it. We will recommend a frequency based on your filter type and debris load, usually with an extra cleaning after the heaviest part of monsoon season. Pools on our weekly route have their pressure watched at every visit, so the tech can tell you when it is due rather than waiting for the water to show it.

After a cleaning, the technician restarts the system, purges air, checks for drips, and records the clean pressure as a new baseline. You get a short note on how much life the sand, grids, or cartridges have left so you can plan for a replacement before summer rather than during it.
